Thousands of foreigners have woken up today to find that their Wechat pay will not allow them to accept transfers or Red Packets.
Affected users have been asked to further verify their ID by adding additional bank cards, luckily we have found a solution that seems to fix the problem.
Wechat Pay Solution
To fix the problem with Wechat asking you to add additional bank cards you can cancel Wechat pay and reverify your ID and bank card details to register Wechat pay again, simply follow these steps:
Step 1
Withdraw Wechat balance to Zero
Step 2
Cancel all auto payments (e.g. Didi）
Step 3
Delete all linked bank cards.
Step 4
Cancel wechat pay in 'Payment Management'
Step 5
Register wechat pay again by verifying ID and one bank card - Recieve text message code to verify.
After following this process you should be able to receive payments again on Wechat.
Important Notes
This process of cancelling Wechat Pay and restarting will delete your entire transaction history.
The exact spelling of your name and phone number must match with your bank's records to link cards.
