Rainstorm red warning has just been issued for Qiaotou town in Dongguan. At present, rainstorm orange warning and thunder gust yellow warnings for various towns in Dongguan are in effect, particularly in the northern areas where strong thunderstorms have already occurred.
Intense thunderstorms with rainfall rates of 40 to 50 mm per hour are expected to impact areas including Guancheng, Dongcheng, Wanjiang, Gaobu, Machong, Wangniudun, Zhongtang, Liaobu, Chashan, Shipai, Qishi, Dongkeng, Hengli, and Qiaotou. The following 24 hours will bring continued heavy to torrential rain across the city.
Recently, Dongguan has been experiencing sudden downpours that can turn day into night in an instant. The Guangdong Meteorological Observatory predicts significant rainfall from August 20 to 21, with localized torrential and extreme rain in certain areas. This will be accompanied by severe thunderstorms, short-term heavy rain, and strong winds of 8-10 on the Beaufort scale. However, the good news is that the rain is expected to ease on August 22, with temperatures beginning to rise.
According to China's Central Meteorological Observatory, Typhoon Jongdari, the 9th of this year, has already formed over the Northwest Pacific on the morning of August 19 and is expected to approach the western coast of the Korean Peninsula. Fortunately, it is not expected to have a direct impact on Guangdong.
