A university in China has filed a lawsuit against a former student who failed to transfer the CNY11 million (USD1.6 million) he pledged to donate to his alma mater in 2019. Wu You was to give CNY2 million (USD287,200) to the Education Development Foundation of China University of Mining and Technology by Oct. 30 last year, and the remaining CNY9 million by Dec. 31, according to Chinacourt.Org. But he refused to transfer the money. It would have been the single largest donation the university, located in Xuzhou, Jiangsu province, has received since its establishment in 1950. Wu pledged to gift the money to fund top-tier talent, overseas internships for undergraduates with financial difficulties, lectures by celebrities and renowned scholars, as well as innovation and entrepreneurship, according to the university’s website.
